The Texas Commission on the Arts Announced today that it will sponsor the Texas Mountain Art Seminar, Show & Sale held in Van Horn, Texas November 11-13, making the day-and-a-half seminar a free event for aspiring professional artists. The event, including an exhibit opening reception on Friday night, a small business seminar for artists and the Texas Mountain Art Show & Sale, was developed by AdventGX, Inc. to promote travel and tourism in the Texas Mountain region by encouraging and supporting the creation and sale of art that captures the unique culture, heritage and natural beauty of the Texas Mountain Region. The event is a program of the
Van Horn, Texas Regional Economic Development Initiative.
The pilot seminar, show and sale will provide promoters an opportunity to establish best practices for producing a seminar series that serves the needs of aspiring Texas artists to gain practical business skills while offering travelers a cultural tourism experience in a series of art shows and sales. The seminars will ultimately be produced in rural venues throughout the state.
Seminar sponsors to date include Van Horn Economic Development Corporation, Van Horn Convention and Visitors Bureau, Big Bend Arts Council, Red Rock Ranch and the soon to open Sunflower Café of Van Horn. AdventGX, Inc of College Station, Texas, is producing the event.
“Van Horn is strategically located at the crossroads of the Texas Mountain Trail and easily accessible to countless beautiful natural attractions and unique Texas experiences, but the small communities in the region, like Van Horn, often struggle to create sustainable tourism programs that benefit the entire region,” explained Joan Tatge, AdventGX director of communications and project manager of the Van Horn Regional Economic Development Initiative. “The Texas Mountain Art Seminar, Show & Sale is a pilot program that leverages two existing assets in the region – talented artists and the art that tells the story of the place. By supporting the artists with a practical educational opportunity relevant to their business and bringing the art to the people, we believe we can help spread the word about the beauty and rich heritage of the Texas Mountain Region.”
